Historically based in Venezuela, Alejandro Betancourt Lopez has influenced entrepreneurs and businesses around the world. Despite his global reach, he remains committed to delivering advanced technology and supplying the energy needs of Latin American communities.

Alejandro Betancourt Lopez was born in 1980 in Caracas, set in the valley of a coastal mountain range in Venezuela. He received degrees in Business Administration as well as Economics from the Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts. Lopez began his career at the ICC-OEOC, a company whose priority is energy and specifically oil. As part of the UK branch, Betancourt became the Business Manager for Latin America. Shortly after that, Alejandro Betancourt Lopez joined the executive team of the Guruceaga Group, a law firm involved with international trade in finance and farming, among other commodities.

Companies

In a neverending drive to supply the energy demands of Venezuelan residents, Alejandro Betancourt López and Pedro TrebbauLópez cofounded Derwick Associates in 2007. With its innovative approach to thermoelectricity, the company supplies electricity to nearly 725,000 households. Lopez presides as CEO of Derwick Associates and has helped it expand its services outside of Venezuela.

Moreover, Alejandro Betancourt Lopez leads the O’Hara administration, which controls almost 20% of the shares in Pacific Exploration & Production Corporation as of 2015. Previously known as Pacific Rubiales Energy, Pacific Exploration & Production changed its name to reflect its increasing Latin American scope.

Finally, Lopez is the president of Hawkers, a company that sells sunglasses online. After the O’Hara administration helped Tuenti Technologies fund Hawkers with a much-needed cash infusion in 2016, the Spanish company named Lopez its new president.

Community Projects

Alejandro Betancourt Lopez has shown evidence of his dedication to improving technology and education in Latin American communities through several endeavors. His efforts contributed to the new wing of the Carmen Salles School in Ciudad Bolivar, Venezuela. Derwick has supported energy-based postgraduate programs such as exist at Simón Bolívar University.

Lopez has also involved himself with environmental concerns, participating in national movements such as World Beach Rescue Day to promote cleanup along the Venezuelan shoreline.
