The Growing Instances Of Election Rigging And Importance Of End Citizens United

A number of findings shook the American politics in the recent days, and all of them are a real concern for the democratic nature of the country that can spoil its pure people verdict spirit. The 2016 Presidential election campaign is the center point of all the controversies as it became clear that Russia played a significant role in diluting the verdict.

It can be comprehended that external meddling was due to changed campaign laws since 2010 Citizens United verdict that gave unlimited and unaccounted spending rights to business groups in the elections. It is generally perceived that Trump administration is not interested in changing the campaign finance laws to remove the unlimited money into election campaign process.

The recent revelations that foreign companies spent on Facebook ads to change the mandate showed how vulnerable the political system is. While some of those campaigns including $100,000 digital ad campaign from a Russian troll farm during 2016 election has just revealed recently, it is yet to know how much various countries have pumped into the U.S. Presidential election in 2016. Shockingly, all these corporations and foreign entities are utilizing the loopholes in the election campaigning laws. It is not just ending with a Russian troll farm. In 2016, a firm owned by Chinese nationals named American Pacific International Capital made a contribution of $1.3 million to a PAC supporting Jeb Bush. It can be believed that all these are tips of an iceberg, and there is an urgent need of legislating efficient campaign laws that can restrict these interferences.

Interestingly, End Citizens United, a PAC working to nullify the effects of Citizens United verdict, confirmed that it decided to endorse Doug Jones, a Democratic nominee, to the Senate. Jones competes in the Alabama special election on December 12 against Roy Moore. ECU confirmed that it is a fight against the groups with special interests who are against the wish of everyday Alabamians. ECU President, Tiffany Muller says that Moore has a radical agenda, and his values are against Alabama and the U.S. itself. He also has close links with shady special interest groups, including Mercer family and Steve Bannon. Contrary to that, Jones is committed to change the rigging system that supports big money donors – a similar voice of ECU.

End Citizens United was founded in the year 2015 in a way to subvert the consequences of uncontrolled money into politics. It hopes to go for a constitutional amendment to implement stricter measures on election spending by creating a public opinion and sending maximum election finance reform representatives to both the Senate and the Congress. The PAC is very active on social media platforms, and it is on a mission to make its message – the need for election finance reform – reaching every American.
